3 new things to know
🍗Every Wednesday thru Friday from 11-4 you can get an early preview of the spicy fried chicken sandwiches at a new place called World Famous HotBoys. They’re serving out of Oakland’s Forage Kitchen (478 25th Street) through the end of August. But more importantly - they’re opening a permanent location on San Pablo ave. It looks good. Real good.
☕️A new location of 1951 coffee recently opened in Rockridge on College Ave. They get their pastries from Third Culture Bakery (you may remember me mentioning the mochi muffin place), and they offer mochi waffles too. 1951 is a particularly great place to visit - because unlike other coffee shops that are just pocketing boatloads of cash from our totally legal caffeine dependencies - 1951 is a non-profit. They provide job training and employment to refugees and asylum-seekers (they say they train more than 100 people a year) and they try to bring awareness of refugee life to the local community. The new College ave location, like the one near the Berkeley, campus is bright, friendly and a great place to get work done and get to know your local community.
🌮For something different at lunch time, try Kono Food Alley, a new collection of local lunch stands off Telegraph ave by Alta Bates. KoNo (short for Koreatown-Northgate neighborhood) offers up vendors selling empanadas, tacos and even Boba from 11-2 on weekdays. They’ll be in the alley until mid-October.
