Tacos to try: el garage
Holy smokes. My pal Amelia tipped me off to this taco pop-up in Richmond, CA and as soon as I took one look at their instagram photos I knew I needed to have these greasy, cheesy tacos immediately.
Here’s the thing: they are only open on Saturdays and Sundays - from 9 a.m. until they run out (or by 4pm). They have birria (beef) tacos with cheese or without. And a dipping sauce. That’s it. Self-serve salsa comes in two varieties: kinda spicy and hella spicy.
On weekend mornings they let you know where they’ll be serving via their Instagram story and today they set up shop in the driveway of a house on an unassuming residential street - you turn the corner to hear latin music popping and catch the smell of mexican food frying in the air before slipping under a tent to place your order (cash or venmo only).
I don’t know where I am or why I’m there at 9:30 am on a Saturday but you should be too. You’re welcome.
